Sustainability within the Theatre sector is a hot topic at the moment. We're thrilled that it is an ongoing conversation and are proud to be at the forefront of this movement with regards to Set construction.
Theatre Sets and staging have traditionally not been favourable to the environment or been sustainable. Sets are designed, constructed, brought to life by artistry, used for a production and are then either put into storage at a recurring cost to the theatre company (and historically not used again) or are put in a skip generally ending up in landfill sites. Having overseen the destruction of innumerable Set pieces over the years, or put them into said storage to languish until they disintegrate, we realised that there needs to be a major shift in how end of use Sets are managed.
This is where Re-Staging comes in....
Our mission is to use sustainable, recyclable materials to construct Sets for Theatre companies.
But it doesn’t stop there. We can also be responsible for (dismantling and) collection of the Set, returning it to our premises where the Set will be broken down and re-used for other Sets and productions where possible.
(Off-cuts and left over pieces of wood will be donated to secondary schools' woodworking departments and Men's Sheds🔨).
When a used/unwanted Set is delivered to our premises, we break the Set down into its component parts. The paint is stripped without using chemicals, wood is re-worked and some parts are used in the creation of a new Set where practical.
(The design of the original Set remains with the Designer/Producer and all intellectual property rights are respected).
We are here to provide you with sustainable options. We are striving to be a driving force for change within the industry aiming to transition the sector to a more sustainable, just and circular model. Unfortunately, historically, ecologically unsound choices have been made by Theatre companies and Event companies in Ireland. This has often been the case because nobody knew of any companies to contact to help deal with their end of use Sets. Well now you have that option, we have arrived as a response to the lack of sustainable solutions available to the Theatre and Events sector in Ireland!
Your Theatre or Events Company can be the catalyst for achieving positive behavioural change in the industry.
Go Carbon Neutral 2022's aim is to make it as straightforward as possible for businesses to understand the emissions that they are responsible for and to offset those emissions by committing to join the campaign to fund woodland creation.
